Ferran Vendrell-Herrero is an Associate Professor in International Management at the University of Edinburgh and a Visiting Professor at the University of Vaasa. He brings a wealth of academic and professional expertise to these roles, where he built a strong reputation for impactful research, effective teaching, and academic leadership. Ferran's research lies at the intersection of innovation, strategy, and international business. He is particularly interested in the dynamics of innovation, digitization, and internationalization in both SMEs and multinational corporations, with a strong sectoral focus on manufacturing and the creative industries. His scholarly work explores a wide range of themes including servitization, Industry 4.0, organizational learning, exporting, and subsidiary management. He has published extensively in leading academic journals, including Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of World Business, Journal of Product Innovation Management, International Journal of Production and Operations Management, British Journal of Management, Regional Studies and Long Range Planning. In total, Ferran has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed articles in internationally recognized outlets (AJG levels 3 and 4). This is exemplified by a REF 2021 impact case with the BBC, where his work helped influence strategic decisions around innovation and digital transformation. He is the Scientific Director of the International Conference on Business Servitization, a platform that convenes scholars and practitioners to explore the future of services in manufacturing. He has also co-edited special issues in leading journals such as International Journal of Production Economics, Regional Studies, and Technovation, contributing to the development of key research agendas in these fields. Ferran’s teaching portfolio is equally distinguished. He has taught at undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive levels, receiving consistent recognition for the quality and relevance of his instruction. In 2016, he was awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), reflecting his commitment to pedagogical excellence.
